    Hi,

New to this and need some clear answers:

I use VCDEasy 1.1.2 and want to transfer JPEG photos to VCD and watch them on standalone DVD player, TV, 4:3, PAL

I am aware of the aspect ratio issue, therefore I followed the instructions and resized to MPEG.
    Question
    1) I have noticed that the pictures that were taken in 640 x 480 resolution have been resized, the ones at 1600 x 1200 did not change. Why?

    2) How can I burn the JPEG photos using VCDEasy ? If I try and click add file it only allows me to see the mpeg ones.

    3) Can I use Multisession for VCD photo so that I can add them from time to time? If not, alternative solutions?

    4) Instead of VCD, can I burn in SVCD format? Is it wellworth for the high definition pictures like 1600 x 1200 or not? I do imagine that VCDEasy can manage this.

Thank you for your patience in replying to these basic questions.

  2. On nero, if you drap jpeg into VCD, you can view it with DVD player.
But if you drap jpeg into SVCD, it does not work ( on a pioneer DV333 ).

    SingSing,

In Nero, it doesn't work because you need a separate encoder for MPEG2, I believe.

You can also try Photo2VCD Professional. It's very easy to burn a photo video CD with background music and transtion effects.

  5. The highest image size you can burn on a VCD, SVCD or DVD is 704x480. A TV set is not capable of displaying any higher resolution, and the mpeg decoder in a DVD player will not decode higher resolutions than 704(720)x480 (NTSC).

So, since a 704x480 jpeg image can be burned on a VCD, that would be the best way to put still images on a disk that will play on a DVD player.

Nero is a perfeclty fine tool to burn still images. Select the VCD template, drag any jpg image, no matter what size, to the folder where you normally place mpeg video. Nero will convert the images to 704x480 and make sure the aspect ratio is correct. You can select the time delay between images, or set it to infinite, and use the Next button on the DVD player to advance to the next image.

If you want music, caption and other fancy stuff, then you will have to look for software made for making slideshows on VCD's or DVD's.
However, I would not suggest making the stills into a mpeg file. It will add lots of artifacts and compression noise, and reduce the image size to 352x240 for VCD disks.
