I had the same question a few weeks ago and after looking at many forum articles I realized that you can't (correct me if I'm wrong) simply delete a vob to cut the size, but I did find a good work around for the problem. I use VOBEdit & ReMPEG2 to keep the file but drastically reduce the file size. That way the menu vob's still find the vob for burning and viewing. Basic steps:

    1. Open the vob in vobedit and demux it to another file. I use chopperXP to view the separate vob files you get after doing this and find the one containing the end credits. Then I run ReMPEG2 and cut the file size by how ever much I need to fit it on the disk. You can go down to 20% in Rempeg.

    2. After creating the resulting VTS_5_xxx.M2V I run the "MPEG-2 Video Exchange tool" in Rempeg and name the file the same as the original vob file I started with in Rempeg but save it in a different folder.

    3. Then run Join clips in "vobedit" or "vobmerge" which is a very powerful and simple tool to use. Save the resulting vob as the one you originally started with under your VIDEO_TS folder and you should have a properly working file. You may have to create a new IFO in ifoedit after this to get it to run but I haven't had to yet. You are left with a complete working DVD and I have been able to do this and even keep most of my menus in the end. I have found that the majority of the dvd-9 disk can fit on a dvd-r even with menus after running ifoedit, tripping out languages and subtitles and then using the above procedure because with the exception of Huge movies like Star Wars II most of them are only slightly over the 4.39 Gig limit after chopping out all of the garbage. I rarely have to remux the main movie altogether...just undesirable pieces like end credits and lead ins. I hope this is helps. If it's not clear let me know and I can go into depth a little more.
