I need a reliable machine for playing back +R and +RW.
Some of you may have read the business that went on for some time while I thought my burns were failing, tried all sorts of things; it turned out that my Panasonic RV32 just didn't want to play the +disks.
If I look up on the DVD players page of this site which machines play +, the RV32 turns up in the list. So I don't trust that list!
Can anyone recommend a reasonably-priced player that will play +R and +RW without problems, as well as VCD and SVCD?
Thanks.

Sony has been making DVD+R/W burner, may be their
model work better in this format ? There are argument on this forum that there are no DVD+R/W compatibility problem. They may think your are trying to be difficult. -
First of all I'm certainly not trying to be difficult. I fully appreciate that brain surgery is easier to understand than DVD authoring and compatability! And I sympathise with anyone who wants to argue the issues or to understand them better.
Secondly, I'm not looking for a burner. I have a burner. It burns +R/RW and I'm looking for a reliable stand-alone player that will play +R/RW. That's all.
Can anyone recommend a good one? -
Hey tobenfun,
I too have a panasonic RV32 and recently got an HP200i. My panasonic has a problem displaying the menu page properly. I used mydvd, dvdworkshop, recordnow, nero, dvdit. Also used Hp and memorex media. Ive only tried +RW so far as I am testing. Nothing worked except when i made a full motion menu page. All static menu pages failed to display right. I have an old philips 825 player that plays the +RW fine. I believe Philips dvd players are generally compatible with +R/RW. Some of their players actually say so on the tag. I will buy another player to replace the RV32 and am going with Philips. Take your burn to the stores and try it. -
Hi I too have a DVD+rw burner(ricoh MP5120) NOT the +R(Mp5125).
And I use two standalone players. The first is a Panasonic XV 10,which does clearly support +RW/R ,(nice shiny sticker on the front to say so and -rw(but I am awaiting a new burner to confirm this).I have "backdup" a few dvd's to +RW and they seem fine(nero etc etc).So as one of the posts says "burn a disk and pop down to your local shop and test" any shop worth its salt will let you do this
Secondly I purchased a Cyberhome CH402(us branded I think bought in the UK at WHSMITHS and this was very cheap £70 and it as yet has NOT failed on any disk(even when the £199 panasonic above has with SVCD's) I have tried VCD,SVCD,+RW,-R,MP3 even a DATA DVD with MP3's on it(yeap 4gig worth of MP3,s Dont tell SONY or WARNER BROTHERS etc)..And finally has a nice option just burn Jpegs on a disk and it shows them as a slide show no Kodak Photo disk needed etc.Hope this helps. If you need more details let me know...http://www.cyberhome-europe.de/
