So, I have been trying prolly for about the last WEEK constant to convert some DX50/DivX 5 AVI container files to a clearly HIGHLY specific codec/framrate/bitrate WMV3/9 WMV file. EVERY attempt has produced the quite annoying 'File not supported!' error every time I try to convert. I have tried prolly close to 15 different full converters, open sourced, and commercial encoders, used prolly the entire collection of codecs from freecodecs.com, and I'm getting highly annoyed with this.
The player I'm trying to convert it to is an 'Gigaware 42-422' player. You won't find anything in Google, so, don't bother. The player's really nice, but, you have to have the perfect file.
The site that hosts the players firmware, and makes the thing, is over at http://www.mymusix.com/ and the site says:
-Audio: 8Kbps~320Kbps (MP3), 64Kbps~320Kbps (WMA) and VBR files are supported
-Video: Simple profile, QVGA, 30fps, 512Kbps (WMV)
That's not very clear to me at all. So, I'm stuck with what to use, and the like. The software disk that came with it is not available.
To show my frustration with all this, instead of doing something stupid, like typing in all caps, I uploaded a file that the player will play. The file should be another guy just trying to get his job done... but, the equipment won't let him. Just like I'm feeling. But, he does something stupid, like, get fired. [I would think.]
To GET this, I did the following steps. Please note I am UNABLE at ALL to get an AVI or any other format on ANY converter to accept anything other then FLV. There may be a spot of hope for me, I'd guess, with that. And, no, I can't jump from AVI to WMV, the player'll complain again. x.x
1. Downloaded it from YouTube as an .flv file.
2. Added file to NCH's Prism video converter [free] file list.
3. Converted it from FLV to MPG using the settings:
-MPEG1 (VCD standard, etc), average and maximum bitrate: 11500
-Audio sample rate set to 44100 kbps and the bit rate to 128.
4. After converting, I took the end result, and put it on the list, and converted AGAIN to .wmv with these settings:
-Video Compressor: Windows Media Audio 9
-Video Bitrate: 512
-Sound Compressor: Windows Media Audio 9.2
-Sound Format: 22kbps, 22kHz, stereo CBR
That produces WITHOUT FAIL a playable file, sometimes VERY nicely done, other times... eh, it works, nothing that special.
So, if anyone knows from experience of some converter/encoder that'll pump out results that's not massively huge, and not work, like Windows Encoder 9, please tell me, or maybe I need to set something different with my current software?
P.S., if you are going to tell me to upgrade my hard ware, I'll say it once: I cannot afford that. Let's leave it at that.
