It's not too hard in VirtualDub

    Examine the picture:

I stole this from one of the user guides. Use the start and end offset markers to select the area you want to cut. Then go to the Edit menu and select Delete selection or just hit the Delete key. Then you have to save your new edited file. Just use direct stream copy unless you want to change the file type.

    Hope this helps!

Go up to the File menu and select "Save as AVI... ". You have to give it a different name from the source file because it can't read the source file and write over it at the same time. I usually have a tv show that is a file called "TVSHOW.AVI" for example. I rename the edited file to be "TVSHOWNOCOMMERCIALS.AVI".

    Hope this helps!

  6. Use the start and end markers and mark your video range as above. You can also use "Video -> Select Range" for this.
Now select "Edit -> Delete Selection" and you should see your selected range is deleted. Move the slider to and fro and confirm this.
Save your AVI to a new file.
