  1. "Backing up"?

Are we really backing up a $20 or $30 dvd movie we may watch 2 or 3 times a year incase of a fire or other disaster that has a chance of about 1 in 100,000 of happening that wipes out the collection?

Are we saving these back ups at a secure location, A safety-deposit box somewhere? a friends house? or in the cabinet next to the very discs were backing up?

Oh com'on, Who we kidding here? We're trying to copy movies we rent or make them for friends. We buy DVDs for the Digital Picture, the 6.1 surround sound, and all the cool extras. Are we backing those up too?

  2. I actually back up every Disney (or any other childrens movie) I purchase.
I have a set of twin girls in there terrible twos that have a combined destructive force equal to almost any natural disaster . I had to replace a few of there DVD's. Now when I buy them (or recieve as gifts from relatives) I immediately Make a simple backup with ifoedit and store originals in bedroom closet. To bad I couldn't do something like this for the VCR and DVD players they wrecked. Now I will admit that I have ripped some rentals because I didn't get to watch them, but I use dvd-rw and re-write to them. If I really like a movie I go and Buy it. Most movies are not worth watching more than once, and if they are I like to have the original. That's how it goes for me and DVD's. I will plead the 5th if you ask me about music cd's ............ and games!

  3. The policy of this forum is that we don't really care what you do in your private lives, but the breach of copyrighted material is against the spirit of this forum and is not allowed.

That is, discussion about ripping of DVD rentals is not allowed and if you specifically say you do so (and/or advocate the practice), you will be banned.

Similarly, copying a disc for a "friend".

I am going to lock this thread because I am positive that members who don't understand this policy are going to break it.
