  1. Hi,
I'm new to buring VCD. I just successfuly used Creator 5 to burn a VCD using MPEG format. When I tried it on my PC, MS Win Media recognizes it ok but it won't automatically start to play until I click the Play button. No problem.

Then, when I tried to play it on my Sony DVD/CD/VCD player. The Sony player does not even recognize that I have a VCD inside. It shows "NO DISC" on its panel.

    Can some please help by
1 - explaining to me what is happening ?
2 - telling me how can I correct this problem s.t. the VCD will play on any DVD/CD/VCD player ?
3 - telling me that is the capacity of the CD (i.e. 74 min/80 min) is the max limit of my movie length ?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

    Regards

  3. When DVD player states that it accepts (S)VCDs, it means it accepts MANUFACTURED (pressed) (S)VCDs not "home made" ones. To see whether it accepts your made ones, check for CDR/RW compatibility. Hence home made (S)VCDs aren't accepted by all VCD compatible players. 74 min CDR/RW holds about 70 min in (S)VCD format (mode 2), 80 min CDR/RW - 80 min. If burned in mode 1 (data CD) then it depends on size not on length (so you can fit even 10 hours if you want to).

My wife ahs a Sony AM/FM/DVD compact system in our bedroom. I willNOT play CD-Rs of any type, even audio, period.

BUT: IT will play CD-RW, GREAT!

I learned about the CD-R v CD-RW here on this site. I tried using CD-RW and the Sony (300 series) played regular audio, dts audioCDs and VCD as long as I used CD-RW media.

I am told teh issue is the diferance in the dye between CD-R and CD-RW media.

  6. Read your Sony player spec/manual, if it did not say
it can play CDR or CDRW, then it can't.

Quite a few Sony actually can play CDR/W.

The long lines of people returning panasonic and Sony,
were not suprising event at all.

Both of these companies(idiots) finally cave in
and make new one read CDR/CDRW. But they
still don't do SVCD, XVCD well ( How stupid can they be )..

    sigh....
