Strangest thing... brand new, super-fast, loads of RAM - and yet it often "stutters" when importing DV (I use iMovie... so sue me LOL). Sometimes it actually breaks connection and goes back to blue-screen while the camera is still rolling, more often than that it gets back on track but by then several seconds are missing in the middle of the clip...
My G3/500 iBook does a much better job at importing the stuff (never fails or stutters) but it shouldn't be necessary to import all the stuff to iBook and transfer it to the iMac for editing?
BTW, is there any way to stop iMovie from starting the DV camera when you hit Import? My DV camera can pass-through the signal, but I can't capture in real-time if iMovie insists of starting a tape when I just want to capture the pass-through

I thought I'd mention that the only time I saw this happen was a faulty connection, on the camera side. I tried a Samsung that repeatedly dropped the connection, and produced what you described. I see that you have used it with another computer, though. Perhaps try a different firewire cable.

Thanks, but it's the same cable and camera that I used w the iBook...
