Need a reasonable priced Progressive Scan, that plays (s)vcd

I am serioulsy considering buying a samsung txm 2796hf (27inch hdtv monitor) as my tv for computer room.

I was gonna get the sony wega 27 fs100(analog set), but after seeing what the samsung can do with "line doubling" on a regular analog source, I really am leaning towards this..

The sony does have 16:9 vertical compresion mode, which is very good for playback of dvd's (some say it nears Prog scan), for a few bucks more I get this, plus alot more with the Samsung.

I wont use this tv for true HDtV yet, just the line doubling and progressive scan with dvd..

So I want a new dvd with Progressive Scan, but also want it to play back my VCD's and Svcd's..

By reasonable price, I mean 150'sh, the less expensive the better..

Anyone with opinions on either on these 2 tv models I would love your input on that too...

cyberhome has one. it's really inexpensive, but pretty well built, and easily made region free. it is the cyberhome CH-DVD 500. $89.99 at best buy. It plays vcd's and svcds. they even released a new bios that corrects some issues it had with svcd playback and sound. overall a very nice player for the price

How about a Philipps DVD-724. It has Progressive Scan. I have tested mine with VCD's, SVCD's CVD's and XVCD's (have tested all of Kwag's templates only change made was to get the "K3" working I had to change the resolution to 544 X 480.) It states right on the box that it supports VCD and SVCD. I got mine at the local Target for $140. It also displays JPEG's (just copy to CD.)
