Starting tomorrow (11/10), OfficeMax in the US will be featuring a $50 rebate on the WinTV PVR-250- bringing the final cost to $99.
This could be a good chance to get into a hardware MPEG 1/2 encoder at a great price.

hmmm,
Must've had lots of returns then.
But, seriously, $99'niz not such a bad price, but I don't like rebates. I
never get mine back (my monies, that is)
But, we do have a O.Max store near by though.
And, I wouldn't mind seeing how it handles my DV cam footage. I've ben
taking advantage of the FALL season and taking shots of scenary - I just
gotta learn how ta hold the cam properly. I need one of those bars...
But seriously, nothing beats the longer way of encoding though.

ahh crap, I just bought mine from outpost like 5 days ago for $149 with a 30bux rebate

Rebates can be a pain, but I've never been stiffed. Make copies of all the stuff you send, and if the check doesn't show up then contact the rebate house after the time limit they give you. If that doesn't work, go back to the original store and politely talk to the manager.
My thoughts on the card so far: a bit quirky, but impressive results. -

Where did you see the price drop on the pvr250? I searched their online
site and they don't carry that model. -
It's in their weekly Sunday newspaper insert. However, I think
they're just starting to carry this card. It doesn't appear on-line (as you said) but the actual retail stores do seem to have them now.
