Just wondering what people use to capture raw video. I have AIW Pro 128,
1.2GHz Athlon, 1GB RAM, 120GB UDMA 100 IDE HDD. AIW only allows MPEG1 capture and anything above and beyond results in lost frames. I want to capture raw AVI without unnecessary loss of quality.
Firewire IEEE does not work as the resulting video is so jerky, audio not
continous, etc.
Even considering high end capture boards (e.g. the MPEGator series) but not
sure if my computer hardware is the bottleneck.
Computer upgrade is an option but have no clue what I should upgrade to.
Any advice appreciated.

Go ahead and capture to MPEG-1 if your system is already efficient at it. Then just convert your captured file with TMPGEnc (File-->Output to file-->AVI file, etc), or use Virtual Dub (Video-->Compression-->Codec. Save as AVI, etc).
