  1. I am super new to this and I was just wondering a couple of things.

    1) After the 5-10 minutes of initially ripping a DVd to the hard drive, could I take out the DVD from the DVD Rom and watch it on a regular home DVD Player? Or does the Encoding process for DVD2SVCD/TmpgEnc need to refer to the DVD after a certain amount of hours? I see the DVD rom drive light on at first, but haven't stayed around for 14 hours to see if it is in use later.

    2) Does Nero Burn .bin files? I tried it and it didn't work. I heard Nero is the best burner, and now I am using a program that will accept .bin/cue files, but I don't think it is as good as Nero. What file will nero burn? A Mpeg-2 file?

    3) And that leads me to my last question. I have VCD Gear and I'm not sure what happened, but when I tried to convert one of the .bin files to mpeg-2, it made a ton of smaller files, but not one of them was an Mpeg file. Did I do something wrong? If so, what is the exact purpose of VCD Gear if you can just burn the .bin files anyway? I hope someone will be willing to help a newbie with help on these problems, because it is much needed.

No as soon as the DVD is done being ripped to your hard drive... you can take it out.. I use DVD2SVCD.. and it takes about 30 min to rip a DVD
( i know, slow DVD drive) ANYWAY... as soon as its done ripping... there is no need for the DVD anymore.

    Open Nero
    got to File, Burn Image....
Choose the Files of Type: dropdown menu and select All Files *.*. Next just locate the .CUE file, select it and click Open. Make sure you select the .CUE -file, not the .BIN -file.

All you have to do then is choose the writing speed, select the Disc-At-Once Write Method, and click Write.

  3. John E Boy, once again, thanks for the reply. You have helped me with quite a few things. My DVD Rom isn't that great either, It's a Universal Buslink. It was on sale for $60 at Best Buy, but there were two $20 Rebates, one through Best Buy and one through the Manufacturer, so it was only $20 in actuality. Crazy Deal. It can read up to 16x as well, so that was a great deal, there are a few things I don't like about it though...but for the price I can't complain. Anyway, thanks for the info on Nero, that will be a great help. I will wait for my next ripped/encoded DVd and burn with Nero! Thanks again
