If your mpg movie is not in the correct format; frame rate, picture size adn correct audio format, then NERO will give you the OPTION to re-encode your mpeg video to make it compatable with VCD or SVCD format you chose.

I have made VCDs using video already properly encoded without re-encoding.

  3. Nero attempts to re-encode the movie every time your Mpeg1/2 is non-compliant (not a standard (S)VCD) if Create standard compliant CD is ticked (as per tonyp12's screen capture). To prevent it just untick the box - be warned though that it will create a non-standard (S)VCD which isn't accepted by many players therefore it is better to check beforehand whether your player does. If it doesn't, you need to re-encode your file to a compliant (S)VCD using a proper encoder like TMPGEnc and then burn it with Nero (with Create standard compliant CD ticked). Don't let Nero re-encode to a compliant (S)VCD - that, most likely, will create playback problems.
