Are the VCD movies offered on the main page this site legal authorized releases?
The price seems low for recent releases.
Are they available on the North American continent?

There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.

I would assume so. This site wouldnt promote illegal sites. Also another great site is http://www.getvcds.com

from the understanding that i've gathered.. it is legal for them to sell the vcd's in the country they reside in.. having them purchased from outside (i.e., the usa) their own country would be illegal.. very few of their shipments are seized, so they take their chances and feed off the fat american market.

I'm not so sure.....after all, why would the big film distributors allow what appears to be a cheaper version of a DVD to be sold? Surely they'd be losing sales of a more expensive item.
How come I don't see any VCDs for sale at my local HMV, Virgin or online at amazon etc?
Best wishes,

Off course, the VCD's are legal and authorized. Check out the fine print at the bottom of the web site of: http://www.eurekamovies.com/movies.cfm?Product_ID=1560&RID=13728
This is what it says: "All the VCD movies we sell are original licensed copies. We do NOT sell illegal bootleg VCDs or pornographic VCDs, so please do not enquire about them". So don't ask us.
The prices seemed to be ok for VCD's. The web site is located in Malaysia and they are selling them in US Dollars. Anyone can order them from any country and I've seen a few US imported VCD's in Australia. No many though and have no more than half dozen VCD titles myself. -
OK, so they're legal (not that a few small words on the bottom of a web page means much).
I find it strange though that the operation is run from Malaysia, which has one of the worlds biggest intellectual proprty piracy problems. Why Malasia? Why can't I just pop down my local HMV?
Regards,
Rob
By the way, I can't find the Star Wars Trilogy VCD that's advertised on the site available on DVD any where else. It would be strange if it was only released on VCD and not DVD, don't you think? -

The Star Wars Trilogy is not available on DVD in the US or anywhere else. So, the VCD version is rips of individual films sold as an ‘official’ collection - only there is no DVD version. Can you tell me where I could buy the VCD officially in the US?
Do you think that Twentieth Century Fox would authorise a Malaysian company to sell inferior products (let’s face it, the best VCDs are no match for DVDs) when it could bring out the DVD box set itself?
In the UK, the VHS trilogy isn’t available yet (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00004YVEB/ref=sr_aps_vhs_1_1/202-7325004-5909401), so I shouldn’t think it’s been out for long in the US. Twentieth Century Fox is just waiting for the uptake of VHS to dwindle, then release the DVD version (with all the ‘extras’ that could have been put on VHS but were kept back for the DVD) so that the die hard fans can spend their cash all over again.
If this were official it would be shipping out of the US, surely.

You have to find out from 20th Century Fox if these VCD's from Malaysia are legitimate.
I found several web sites on the sale of VCD's and they are all from the same country in Malaysia. They all claim to sell original, authentic and high quality VCD's. They claim to get the VCD's from authorized Asian distributors and factory outlets. You have to find out yourself where you can them from USA.
There is a link on USA info: http://www.d8a.co.uk/vcd/VCD-guide-USA.htm
I warn anybody ordering a VCD from Malaysia, you will have to apply to that country's censorship laws, the VCD films will be censored, edited or as in modified versions. So, don't expect to get R-Rated and X-rated films from there. -
As for "why Malaysia", perhaps because there is a huge domestic market there. In the West, VCD is of fringe interest. In parts of Asia, VCD has a higher market penetration that VHS.

The VCD's sold there are legitimate as are the Star Wars Trilogy VCD set. I have ordered a couple of VCD's from there including Star Wars and all have come with some form of letter both from Eureka Movies and Fox Home Entertainment/Lucas Arts.
The VCD's are illegal however if they are sold outside of Malaysia as they are for local distribution only. However never has one of my shipments been seized by customs and if they are, Eureka Movies resends them free of charge.
The reason Malaysia is chosen is because as Vitualis said, there is a huge domestic market for them as VCD is more popular than VHS. The movie studios see it as a logical product. Instead of the VHS like us western countries get, they get VCD. However because it is just an easy way to drain more money from a product they license out the authoring of the discs to local manufacturers and because of that they dont get access to high quality masters that studios use for VHS and DVD's so the Star Wars Trilogy is ripped from Laser Disc, but with LucasArts approval.
Not all sites sell official VCD's however, alot are bootlegged copies of official VCD's so be careful when ordering. -
Well, I just received a set of original trilogy special edition star wars DVD's and they are in fact DVDs (and in DD5.1). They look as good as the LD special editions and sound even better.
They are Duel layer dvds. -
pacmania..
wow.. who would have thought george lucas would have approved of someone ripping one of his precious laser discs? -
Yeh, amazing what a promise of more money will make people do. Has anyone seen the piles of shite Star Wars merchandise now.
As for the DVD's of the original they are bootlegged but in the case of the '5-star Collection' set they are great quality both audio and visually. Whoever did them (I am guessing professional Asian pirates) would have had to spent some serious $$$'s in terms of encoding and pressing. -
