I'm thinking of running out and picking up the JVC XV-S502 (same as the S500BK) tonight. I've got around 40 SVCD movies, all burned as standard compliant SVCDs using nero. I've got them on a variety of media (gigastorage, princo, pine). Now my question is that all of them have been burned at max speed (most were burned at 8x, and lately at 48x with my latest burner).. would I expect to run into any problems with these and this player? or any other player for that matter? thanks!

I dont think it really matters, but I have always tried to keep it between 8x and 16x. I do that because there was a previous discussion on this board about burn quality and playability with higher speed burns. I believe the general feeling was slower was better, just so the lazer has enough time to write on the various types of media out there today. Some media (dependent on their construction) seemingly need more time (slower burn speed) to "get it right".
You might have to do your own experiment (always recommended) to find out what works best for you.
