First of all I would like to thank everyone here for this terrific resource (vcdhelp.com + forums) I have been reading for a few days and have learned alot from reading the posts and great replys.I have learnt alot from u guys Thanks!
Now i have a few questions i can seem to find answers for here in the forum.
I am using Tmpgenc to make vcd's with the folowing settings:
Xvcd
2-pass vbr
352x240
Max: 2520 (dont really want to go higher for compatablity with others 2x's)
AVG: 1800 (my target is 1 hr recording time on an 80 min cd)
Min: 500 (for compatability with my standalone)
2-pass vbr
352x240
Max: 2520 (dont really want to go higher for compatablity with others 2x's)
AVG: 1800 (my target is 1 hr recording time on an 80 min cd)
Min: 500 (for compatability with my standalone)
These setting worked great for a TV show capture off the sattelite (4:3 fullscreen)captured through an analog to digital converter (advc100). When i play back the disc i made of that show i really cant see anything to "nitpick" about I find it to be very acceptable quality with no artifiacts(at least nothing distracting) All in all i am very impressed with that setting.
My 1st problem is that when I went to rip a dvd movie i used those same setting only difference is that it is an anamorphic dvd. I got the anamorphic part ok it fills the screen top to bottom and everyone is squished tall, so i stretch it with my 16:9 television and it fills the screen east to west no problem!! and everyone looks fine not too fat not too skinny. BUT: it doesnt look nearly as nice as the (4:3 fullscreen)satelite tv show i captured. The dvd has a lot of jagged edeges in some scenes like say the lines on a car or a shirt collar. Also people in the backgroung who waddle along sidde to side seem to be all pixelated and chunky until they get into the foreground. Basically i want to know why the tv show give me nothing to bitch about and this anamorpic dvd has got me nit picking? I have really tried experimenting but to no avail! even tried a cbr3500 on those hard scenes!! no luck! Are anamorphics harder to encode into mpgs? After all it's just a 4:3 until u stretch it no? Or is it that a dvd has too much resolution for my XVCD settings?(above) or is it in the stretching of the picture with my tv to make it fit 16:9 that these wigglies come into play?
Problem #2 related to this same dvd movie again
I divided it up into 2 discs
clip # 1 60 mins 46 secs 729,523kb
clip # 2 60 mins 47 secs 629,839kb
why the 100 meg differece !! i used the same settings
Xvcd
2-pass vbr
352x240
Max: 2520 (dont really want to go higher for compatablity with others 2x's)
AVG: 1800 (my target is 1 hr recording time on an 80 min cd)
Min: 500 (for compatability with my standalone)
dont i calculate this with the average? if i use 1800 kb average for a 2pass vbr the it should fill a 80 min cd more or less right! actually even clip 1 is sorta small in size no?
What am i doing wrong doesn't an hour of video work out to the same size using the same avg 2pass? Regardless of the clip?
Thanks in advance!!
