I am very new to burning Videos but I want to create a backup to My DVDs to just in case my Kids ruin one.... What is the best software (preferably freeware...) to use to make backups...
Someone suggesting using Smartripper, DVDx then Nero (which I have).
Any other suggestions?

Well, there are many other ways to do it, sounds like you want to go down the VCD/SVCD route. Check the guides, and give em a try.

well what you currently have (Smartripper, DVDx and Nero) is a really good start. there could be maybe a little faster ways but i think useing Smartripper, DVDx and Nero are the simpliest. all you do is rip the main movie in smart ripper then load the ifo file in dvdx select what you want vcd or svcd. decide weather or not you want dvdx to split the movie into 650 or 700 megs to burn to disk. then burn with nero simple

For a newbie, DVD2SVCD is about as simple as it gets. You'll still want to follow a tutorial to step you through it though.
