DVD-R Rip Of JasonX (16:9) playing at (4:3) with choppy vid

Ripped JasonX using the CCE Robshot method. Muxed with the new IFOEdit v0.95. Burnt with Nero and then tried with RecordNowMax. Both times after the burn i played the disc in PowerDVD and it ran perfectly, 16:9 & smooth video. Once i popped it in my standalone Apex 500W and PS2 the discs played at 4:3 and had really choppy video, almost as if I dont have enough frames per second or the bitrate is too high.

The average bitrate of the video is 6000, so I dont think the bitrate is the issue. Also to my knowledge, CCE doesnt change the resolution of the picture or the framerate.

An interesting sidenote is looking at the authored .ifo in IFOEdit after it muxed, the settings look correct to me... In fact they are the same as the original IFO file on the DVD...

So... Any tips?

Actually in CCE 2.64 (the only version I have worked with) there is a setting for aspect ratio in the MPEG2 video settings area. Your may be set to "DAR 4:3"

Anyways... I thought of that soon after i posted so i checked the video stream with BitrateView and it indeed says 16:9. I checked the authored IFO's and they indeed say 16:9 on them as well.

The fact that it works in PowerDVD really confuses me... It plays as 16:9 and smooth video there...

I can fairly well rule out an Authoring issue as this has happened with Scenarist and IFOEdit 0.95. I can fairly well rule out a player as this has happened on my Apex 500W and my PS2. I've testing burns in both Nero and Veratis RecordNowMax... AND this has happened to me while trying The Count Of Monte Cristo as well...

So... This basically leaves an encoding issue... I used CCE 2.64 to encode the stream.

Opening the saved .ecl file, I can see it was encoded with the option Drop Frame ticked... Could this be a problem? None of the guides I've seen mention it, and yet I know NTSC streams must be set to "Drop Frame" in Scenarist... Also the frames are interlaced, so maybe i checked "Upper Field First" when i shouldnt have? Would that cause the problems I'm seeing?

I dont have a DVD-RW so i dont really want to change anything and burn again without a fairly good idea that it will fix my problems.

This is really stumping me. Is there some hidden setting I need to tick in the authoring program or something??

Hmmm. I am at a loss to explain what is happening.....

I know you checked the IFO file but what settings did you check? I wonder if you have the "PAN and SCAN" option enabled. Just to satisfy my curiousity try this....

At the root of your movie's IFO file you should see “Title Set (Movie) attributes:”. Double click “Video: MPEG-2 720x480.......” to open the video attributes. In the “Aspect Ratio” box check “16:9”. Resolution “720x480”. In Static remove any checks if any. If Pan and scan is enabled here it would force full screen.

Its a shot in the dark but its the only thing I can suggest. Hope it helps.

It has "Automatic Letterboxed" check... But so did the source DVD's ifo file. Is this supposed to be checked? I dont want to try any 'dark shots' right now cuz i dont have any DVD-RW discs onhand...

If it's working in PowerDVD then It can't Be an encoding issue. The file had to be encoded correctly. When you checked the IF)'s you did check the movie aspect and not the one that says MEnu, correct? Did you try loading the ifo's in IFOEdit and having it check sectors, etc???? You may even want it to recreate your IFO's for you.

Heyy... I did the Get VTS Sectors in IFOEdit... And it found errors...

Dont you think authoring in IFOEdit would create correct IFO files? Jeez... How do i tell it to create new IFO files? I want to do that right away before i spend another DVDr to test...
