It might be that your DVD player doesn't support VCD or you burned your VCD with a very high speed.

    Hope That Helps!!!

  4. It could be the bitrate of this movie is too high for your CD-rom player.

  5. can i change the bitrate and then reburn it?the bitrate is 889 how would i change it if this is the problem?thanks

  6. Looking at your System Details, then it the bitrate you specify should not be a problem. 52x CD rom drive when a 6x CD rom (in theory at last) should be able to handle this bitrate. It probably is the media, have you tried CDR/CDRW from another manufacturer.

I have tried different kinds of media, finally settled on Verbatim, never gave me any problems.

You can use Virtualdub to convert the file to another bitrate. But if you have a standalone DVD player, i would suggest making a VCD/SVCD (or, in my opinion even better, ad CVD)

  8. It is, most likely, a bitrate problem like Thank_god_its_friday said. I've personally never seen a downloaded DivX (AVI) movie with such a high bitrate (889Kbps) - highest i've seen was 500Kbps (audio+video). Some of my high bitrate DivX files do tend to give choppy playback from CDR when i am doing a lot of other things on my PC at the same time. Mine is AMD Athlon 1900+ with 512MB DDR but the CD-Rom read speed is only 32 so that might be the problem. You could lower the bitrate in Virtual Dub if you really want to be able to play the file off your CDR, in which case i would advise you to keep your original DivX too since it would be a great source for converting to (S)VCD or DVD later.

  10. Sure:

    1) Check your file's properties for your audio and video bitrates
    2) Load your file in VD, go to Video->Compression...and select your preferred codec (DivX 5.0.2 would be nice), click Configure and slide the bar in Encoding bitrate: box to your new bitrate (bear in mind that this setting will be for combined audio and video bitrate so if you set it 380Kbps then the video bitrate will be 380 minus the original audio bitrate), press Ok and OK again
    3) Audio->Direct Stream Copy, Video->Full Processing Mode, File->Save as AVI..., type a new name for your AVI and press SAVE
    4) Wait until VD does the job.

  11. thanks for all the help .with gspot i only see the 1 figure of 889 which i assume is both audio and vidio how do i get the bitrate for each thing seperately?also what do u advise to set the new bitrate for?thanks again for the help

  12. You should see the bitrates by right clicking on your AVI and looking in it's properties (advanced mode). Set new bitrate to something like 250Kbps (if audio bitrate is no more than 150Kbps, otherwise just go for original audio bitrate + 100Kbps for video).
