Hi Guys!
I just want to know if it is possible to convert Divx 3.11(a) movies to DivX 4.x or even 5.x?
If so, how can this be done?
And most of all...can this be done, without losing to much quality of the picture?
I'm planning to buy a KiSS DVD (and DivX) Player DP-450, which only is compatible with Divx 4 and 5.
Therefore I hope there is a way to convert all my movies.
More information on this player, can be found here: http://www.kiss-technology.com (for those who don't know already)
Thanks in advance!
P.S. A lot of my movies also are encoded with AC3 sound and yes, I know about the VirtualDub tool, but it isn't very clear for me if this tool could be used for these kind of conversions.

Virtual Dub is good for conversions. Just make sure all the codecs are loaded. Load your DivX 3 file. Select the new codec, save as AVI.

Thanks TommyKnocker!
Now I only hope that the quality of the movie itself won't change (that much)...
The main reason is, that I want to make sure that everything works out just fine...
Anyway, I will check this one out tomorrow..
P.S. Since this DVD DivX Player can be upgraded by CDR, it's probably just a matter of time, that someone will make the DivX 3.11 encoded material to work.
I'm looking forward to it. -
Why did I know this would get asked sometime soon? Anyways, I wouldn't like to convert them. It is really easy to do, however, you will loose quality. However, you may be able to fool the player by changing the fourcc or something like that, or maybe there will be hacks for the player to bypass this limitation. Anyways, I can't picture myself buying a box like that to play movies, they're just not worth that much at all. You might also think about things it does not support (GMC i think?), maybe that some movies with odd resolutions won't play well, or if they were cropped in some odd way, the aspect ratio might be screwed. IT most likely won't support all the other codecs that we see being used in .avi formats once in a while (xvid, ogg vorbis, WMA...) So I don't know if it would play either 10% or 90% of my movies. You know what? A basic computer does the job just fine for about that same price, but it can also be used for other things... Anyways. Hope that helps at all.
