  1. Guys,

I'm using an AIW Radeon to capture (W2K/AthlonXP). Recently (dunno why), I've noticed some distortion in both the video and audio of the captures. A link is here:

    http://geocities.com/lordkariya/mytest2.avi

(note: if it tells you file can't be found, click on the url address bar and press enter. It should download.)

Video: Look at the top. Divx did a decent job of hiding it; it's actually much worse.

Audio: listen for the popping noises.

In the preview window in VirtualDub, I can see the distortion. Oddly enough, if I disconnect all the cables from the vidcard, I *still* see the distortion (the snow in the unconnected ANT preview window is distorted !)

I thought this was a driver issue, so I followed the reinstall (sticky) instructions, but the issue remained.

The distortion appears in avi_io as well.

    any suggestions ??

    Thanks,
    LK

  2. I've tried this on two separate boxes with the same result. How likely is it that it's a pure hardware issue ?

    LordKariya,
From looking at your clip the one obvious thing that comes to mind is that you forgot to deinterlace which you can do on the fly in MMC or in post processing thru VirtualDub if that is what your intention was. As far as the audio is concerned is it present every time you capture or was it introduced after you did your conversion? Before jumping to any conclusions try capturing from another input source such as your line in or S-VHS input. The audio popping sounds vaguely like the white clip limit is being exceeded.
    Warning! I'm baaaaaaaaack

  5. Kayfam,

Yeah, I didn't deinterlace. I'm actually just worried about the top segment though, those 8-10 lines which are significantly distorted (it looks the same way during capturing) and the audio pops. I'm not sure what the white clip limit is ? I've never heard that phrase before. The strange part is, it doesn't have to do with the source; If I disconnect all inputs, the black/grey/snow is distorted in the same location ! I've tried different driversets and computers.

    esanchez: I used VDUB.

    Thanks for the input.
