  1. I got hold of a 3 dvd discs, they are rips from dvd9's put onto dvdr's with the extra scenes removed, all the other contents remain (original menus, subtitles, audio settings, etc).

I cannot copy these as 1:1 for some reason, I have the tried smartrippers full backup method (to produce an audio_ts and video_ts title set) and burned with nero, dj pro 4, primo v2. I have tried making a .gi, .iso and .img still no joy. I have tried dvd decrypter
as well, and also used ifo edit to rebuild as a project.

the burns all complete fine %100 and all the data is on the dvdr, both my dvdrw drive (pioneer A03) and dvd rom (creative labs) read the discs and play fine in my pc and other pc's but as soon as they are put into standalone dvd players they lock up and will not play the dvd disc! Players I have treid them in are my Pioneer 717, a Pacific 1000, and a ps2.

the only way I can get the films to burn and actually play on a standalone machine is to rip and author with spruce and then burn as a data dvd.

I have been ripping for a while now and it's just these three dvd's I got that will not backup as 1:1 copies. I have used 7 different types of media as well ranging from dirt cheap FWS upto TDK and VErBATIM.

any help, suggestions would be appreciated.

    regards,

  2. ok I found the answer as to why these discs are as they are, they have been copied in a replicator (I don't know which type yet) which does do true 1:1 copies from and original dvd5/dvdr. The problem is though when these are then backed up they come out fine if you play them in a pc but on any standalone they instantly lock up or just hang on 00:00 chapter 1.

does anyone know why/how the replicator changes the way the data is put onto the dvd and is there a way around this?

any help/suggestions on the subject will be appreciated

  3. I can see two possiblities for your problems.

    1. When ripping to HD and then reburning.

I have found that when you rip a DVD, even if you do not touch the files, you must use the "Get VTS sectors" feature in IfoEdit.
Try to rip the VIDEO_TS folder to the harddrive and then use IfoEdit to correct the sector table. Then it should burn with Nero or PrimoDVD, etc.
Also make sure your burning software is up-to-date. Nero had problems with burning DVD-Video discs in the beginning.

    2. When creating a image file of the DVD

Most likely your software is only making an image from the ISO/Juliet filesystem and is ignoring the UDF filesystem that standalone DVD players require. This would explain why it will work in a DVD-ROM but not a standalone player.
I am not sure why this would happen. Try using Nero to make the image file in its native .NRG format. (Best way to do this is to do a DVD to DVD copy and just stop it from burning. This will leave the DVD image file.) Then use a tool like ISOBuster to confirm that the image has both a UDF and ISO filesystem.

    Good Luck.

  5. you are the man! I got it working!!!

I used iso buster to check the files on the original copy against one of the dud discs I made and there was only one value that was different, the root address! plus the dud was showing as a data disc if you look.

I then started getting errors when trying to burn an iso???? have no idea why and for some reason DJ will not write .cdi files with my A03 (due some incompatibility error).

So I made a image with VOB INSTANT CD/DVD (bin and cue file) I left the settings as they were. Vob will not burn this correclty either (I must be jinxed lol), BUT!!! I burned the bin with DJ and it works!!!

I dont know why there are so many incompatability problems with these burning progs, but I have working copies which is my goal!

thanks again for the pointers David
