I encoded a divx file to SVCD with TMPGEnc it came out fine. When I went to burn it useing Nero it said:
You are using a beta version of the encoder. Due to patent license restrictions, the MPEG2 encoding/converting is not available.
I downloaded SVCD plugin for Nero from four different sources. I just kept hitting ok about ten times to get the cd writen. I wrote it and I put in my 12 bit Sony DVP-NS700 Progressive Scan Dvd player. I play VCD's in it all the time, but this was my first SVCD.
Would really appreciate your help!

uncheck the box that says "create standard compliant disc"
that should do the trick. I think it wants to reencode your SVCD, bcz the plugin is only for encoding, if I'm not mistaken.what are you askin' me for...

It's encoded. I finnaly got it to burn. I found the right plugin, so it wrote it on the disk. I went to play it and it said it cannot play disk, HUH. I have a DVD-NS700P it's a 12 bit dac sony progressive scan dvd player and I don't have it set to progressive scan? I don't know why it's not playing, I play VCD's in it all the time, and I followed the directions on the SVCD help page which is not much different then VCD. Help me dog!

I noticed that both the Sony DVP-NS700P and the Sony DVP-NS700V was listed as same player in our dvd player list. I will try to separate the posts. It seems that the V supports SVCD and the P does not.

Wow that sucks, one little letter means the difference from complete SVCD support and none =**(. Well anyway, I know of a way to make your DVD player play SVCDs even if it doesnt support them. You go to simple multiplex in TMPGEnc, then load in the SVCD file, then make a new file name for the one that you want, then change the drop down thing at the top to MPEG-1 Video CD. After that start the multiplexing and when it's done, if it gives you an error you did it right. After that you can just burn that MPEG-2 onto a VCD. (use the VCD template in nero for example) When nero gives you an error because the video isnt standart compliant, just say turn off standard compliance and burn the thing. After that it'll play fine ^_^.
