  1. i had a couple gig file of home movies i authored with ulead and it said it was burning at 18X! it took like 15 mins! i thought memorex was 1x only media? and why then will nero copy the same file in over an hour?

  2. Some software translates that into a CDR burn speed equivalent. Since the base DVD rate is roughly 9x that of CD (IIRC), that makes sense, IF the Memorex is really burning at 2x DVD. A "couple gigs" at 2x SHOULD take about 15 minutes. Why Nero takes over an hour is beyond me - even at 1x it should be more like a half hour.

I have applied a regestry hack that nero shows the actual burn speed.

    guess what?

    if u set it to burn at 2x, it doesn't always burn at 2x, it'll burn at 1.2, 1.3, .9, 1.9

this is true of CD speed to, my drive goes 10x, 12x, 14x, 15.5x, 16x, 20x and finnishes at 24x.

    I have a DRU500A.

  4. That's interesting. The Sony is supposed to start at 16x, then 20x, and finally 24x with CDRs, since it's a zone-CLV machine. I thought the zone dividing lines were clear, but maybe not...
