I'm a newbie ripper and I was wondering about the difference in encoding time between.....vob to vcd ....and ...divx to vcd..??
Am I wrong in saying that most people rip to avi and then encode in TMPGE (or similar)?
Whats the advantage .......?
as opposed to ripping the vob's then encoding.

I would think most people rip there DVD to vob files and then frameserve thru DVD2AVI. then open the d2v in Tmpeg. Why would avi even enter the process if your maling a vcd. If you just want to watch on your computer I guess DIVX makes sense.

Well dvd2avi can convert to avi but most use it as a frameserver.

DVD2AVI can create a .d2v project file(200-400KB) if you select save project from the file menu. The .d2v acts as a pointer(frameserver) to the vob files. Your not creating an .avi file.
