  1. I downloaded Star Wars Episode 2 and it uses the XviD codec. I am trying to convert it to a VCD using TMPGEnc but I am having problems. When it gets to frame 76025 (or about there) it just quits. So I tried using Virtual Dub so that I can recompress it with a DivX codec, then use TMPGEnc again. But it brings up errors in that program also.

Then I tried to convert it with TMPGEnc again in 2 parts
without including frames 76020 - 76030. But still dosen't do the trick.

    Any ideas anyone?

  3. What is the error message saying in TMPGEnc and Virtual Dub?
Have you checked your file for bad frames?
Have you tried re-saving your AVI under new file name with Direct Stream Copy selected under audio and video?
Have you installed pure XviD codec?
Have you increased DirectShow Multimedia File Reader priority?
Is it possible that your sound is AC3?

  4. I think that i have found the problem. I will just download the part with errors from another source and join them. The problem is bad frames. so i dont need to do that other stuff. And in TMPGEnc I put the DirectShow Multimedia File Reader priority as 3 (the highest on my list). And i have no idea if the sound is AC3. What would it matter? and how do I find out?

  5. If your sound is AC3 then your output file might have a jerky playback in DVD player once encoded and burned. AC3 is Dolby 5.1 (5 channel) sound and there are specific instructions on this site how to handle those (but you will need them only IF you have AC3 sound) so that the jerky playback does not occur. You can look into file's properties to see whether it is a 5 channel sound although the best thing is to use GSpot as it will tell you all you need to know regarding codecs in your AVI file.
