Hi all, I know this is a much asked question but here goes......
I have been converting .avi files to SVCD succesfully using TMPGenc' but I have this one file (here is a paste of the details)

    640 x 368, 174785 Frames, 25.000 Frames/Sec, 95 KB/Sec, Unknown Format

I can't seem to be able to gt a decent quality conversion, my stand alone will play anything I throw at it so I can try anything. The problems seem to be mainly blockiness, especially in the dark scenes. I've tried PAL, NTSC film, ghost, noise, field order and rate control etc...the only things I havn't done is mess with the GOP settings (cos' I don't have a clue)

Encoding time/filters or eventual format aren't an issue so please enlighten me. Hope this is all the info' you need.

    Thx

Ooops, the source quality is excellent.

  2. Have you tried increasing the bitrate to the maximum your DVD player accepts (possibly making a XSVCD)?

If Tenders' guide does not work for you (he has gotten good reviews if you read his guide's comments),then take a look here.

Have you tried 2-Pass VBR and highest quality motion search precision? That's what finally got rid of most of the fast-action macroblocks in my CVD's.

Constant bitrate most of the time is the reason for blockiness in a file. I agree with hwoodwar, use VBR with high quality (slow) settings in TMPGEnc.

    Hope That Helps!!! :P
