Hi everybody.....I just bought a CD-writer and was wondering how can I protect my files or VCD from being copied/duplicated. Please tell me what software do I need to protect the files. Thanks a lot.

The absolute best way to keep your files from being duplicated by someone else is to never loan them out and to keep them in a floor safe with a minimum 5" of solid steel wall thickness and a 4 number combination lock. Create for yourself an elaborate sign-in/sign-out proceedure so that you will always know when you have you disks vulnerable to attack and can show the appropriate care.
This is the only way to prevent your files from being copied. -
Check out this link.....

Even that guide won't keep it 100% copy protected - it will work for those that don't know anything about making VCD/SVCD but those that do will find there is more than 5 ways of copying that VCD/SVCD successfully even if the "copy protection" has been applied, so stick to SLK001's advice - only that will keep it 100% copy protected (unless RATS are using the internet too
)

My personal favorite is to record them to disk. Apply the label then using ether a griding wheel if course edge file reduce them to a fine powder. Then toss the powder to the wind over a fast flowing river. That will 99.99% garenntee that your disks will never be copied.
Of course my method does have several drawbacks.... -

Gerad,
Read the above post and you will see WHY you are getting so many "great" responses to your question - how much is Baldrick charging you to access this site? That's exactly how much you should be concerned about protecting your VCDs. -
I think your forgot the DNA sequence testing and retinal scan protection to access the cd.
-
Gerad: use the Search function, there are some useful techniques available, though none of them are fail-safe.
While the suggested reasons he may want to do this could very well be correct, there are some legitimate reasons for copy-protecting CD's, such as protecting an instructional video or informercial on CD. -
This:

... could stop a DAO copying. It is useful if your disc contains useful PBC structures (e.g., menus) as the disc will have to be reauthored to work.
Or you could use this:

... with a message that says "Stolen from _your name_" and stays on for say 10 seconds.

Yeah and having your name on it will help the police find you so they can ask why you are selling your warez like you directed it lol
-
yea putting your name on it is good -- better add your address ..
if you didnt fill the whole disk you can try drilling a small hole in the outer ring near the edge .. makes it hell to copy most of the time .. though sometimes it will not play either on some systems .. ussually will on a dvd player though .. -
........better still - add your neighbours address and initials and add a small clip at the end advertising beastiality videos for half price as Christmas offer.
.....regards drilling the hole in CDR/RW - i found it very useful too, just make sure you're not drilling it too big otherwise some of the data might spill out (imagine if on your carpet....). :P

In any case carpet will need to be thrown out unless BBC wants to buy it for use in the new Blackadder series (to kill a brontosaurus i guess
). Hmmm........maybe i should post a guide here for drilling the correct size holes into CDR/RWs (if there's any freeware available that makes this task much easier)
