  1. I am trying to recode a avi to mpg with TMPGenc Plus. Trouble is that I keep getting an error message and I don't know why or what it means.

If I do a single encode I get this error:

ERROR - This error occurred when ACM was initialized -

If I try to batch encode 2 avi->mpg I see this in the pop-up window:

    -------------------------------------------------------------
    E:\BlackBooks.1x01\BlackBooks.1x06.mpg
    Format: Super Video-CD NTSC (MPEG-2 480x480 29.97fps CBR 2520kbps, Layer-2 44100Hz 224kbps)
    Video: E:\BlackBooks.1x01\BlackBooks.1x06.avi
    Audio: E:\BlackBooks.1x01\BlackBooks.1x06.avi

Result: Write error occurred at address 77F52109 of module 'ntdll.dll' with 00000000
    Dealing time: 00:00:00
    -------------------------------------------------------------

I usually have no problems at all with TMPGenc, so what is wrong ??

    Thanks
    John

  2. have U tried seperating the audio from the video in Vdub? if so it may be that your audio part of the avi is buggered if not are U just adding the avi into the specified boxes to encode? Anyway if U have not done so yet seperate the audio track in VDdub then use that instead of the avi audio.

No I have not tried yet with seprate audio. I will give that a go and see if that does work. What this is, is a Xvid (avi) I just ran it through Vdub so I could decompress the audio. Then I load into TMPGenc to do the mpg convertion.

I will post my results here later : )

    thank you
    John

  5. Kev -

That would be great!! I have yet to find a fix for this, allthough I have decided that it is a video issue and not an audio issue. I ran the audio into tmpgenc without the video and it works ... but soon as I add the video it doesnt. fyi I can play this show just fine as the avi file so I don't believe there is anything wrong with it !!??

    Thanks for any help !

  7. I tried what P@inkiller suggested and separated the video and audio. I found instructions on the VCDHelp website under the Newbie section. I'm presently converting and didn't get the error. I don't know how the audio will be, however. All I see right now is the picture as the conversion takes place. This is my first time doing this so I can't tell you if that's normal or not.

windows Audio Compression Manager is what ACM is ..

The audio compression manager PCM converter is used to provide sample rate and format conversion between an application and the actual hardware codec. Typically the hardware codec does not support all the various Windows standard PCM formats and sample rates. This driver converts PCM audio streams from the following formats to the hardware codec native support.
Format conversions from Mono 8 bit, Mono 16 bit, Stereo 8 bit, and Stereo 16 bit formats to the hardware native format.

Sample rate conversions from 8kHz, 11.025kHz, 22.050kHz, 44.1kHz, and 48kHz to the hardware native format.

have you installed a 3rd party program like toolame or scccr ? if not you should perhaps and do as suggested - always seperate audio and video

  10. Well, I thought I had it working. The last movie I did worked perfectly. I've had nothing but problems since though.

I used SmartRipper to get the VOB files. (Good)
I used DVD2AVI to create the *.WAV and *.D2V files. (Good)

It's all bad from there. I can get TMPGEnc to accept the *.D2V and *.WAV files but when I hit start, all I get is "The error occurred when ACM was initialized".

I've loaded nimo5.0, Divix 5.0.2, Divix 3 and 4, made sure that TMPGEnc, DVD2AVI and VirtualDub were all in the same directories with all of the necessary *.vfp files and stuff. I even deleted everything and started over again a couple of time. I'm also pretty sure that I have all of the latest REVs of these programs.

One thing that I noticed. If I only load the *.D2V file in TMPGEnc, the program runs and will create a *.MPG file, without audio of course. Also, I've seen references to opening the video file in VirtualDub to separate the video from the audio. It worked previously but now all I get is the message "Cannot determine file type."

I've been successful twice with only the above mentioned programs. What am I doing wrong?

  11. LiNUXG33K,

If it is really an XviD AVI you could try this guide.

    Maybe it helps...

  12. Thanks, but that didn't help. I made all of the suggested changes but I still get the message "The error occurred when ACM was initialized". This may not mean much but I can play each of the five *.VOB files individually with PowerDVD. Could the files still be corrupt or something?

It's odd too that others on the forum are having similar issues.

  13. gramps98,

I was advising LiNUXG33K to use that guide since he's got AVI files. You have VOB files and i'm afraid those settings won't help you encode VOB to Mpeg1/2.
