I've been doing vcds quite often, but I found that vcds that I made with no interlace and top filed first kinda screws up with the dvd player that we have, Sanyo 7201.
Anyone could explain why vcds stutter so much with the dvd player?

VCD's are not interlaced, nor do they have two fields. VCD's have one field that is repeated once to make the second field and a full frame (hence lower vertical resolution).

Perhaps I'm writing clearly, but I was converting dvds to vcds, and it's very strange that my DVD player is increasingly unable to play VCDs properly.....
Perhaps it has something to do with the way I encode it? -
I have not seen any VCD file encoded so it plays wrong. If it plays poorly, it's because the DVD player cannot read the disk correctly, or the bit rate is too high if you're using xvcd. When DVD players get old, or your CD-R burner gets old, the performance decreases and you might have to get a new one. My Apex player is starting to have problems playing VCD's that it played perfectly a year ago. So, I bought a new DVD player, and it plays the VCD just fine. The laser has a finite life period, usually not a lot more than 5 years. I remember the early CD players lasted only a few years.

Alright then... guess it should be time soon to shell out the cash for a new burner....
My burner have been around for a significant while.
Good thing is that my parents still have a vcd player lying around somewhere.
