  1. I just recently converted a Divx movie to MPEG-1 for VCD playing and when the conversion was finished, the video file was about 120 megs smaller than the divx compressed file. Is this normal? I thought that files that are converted from DIVX to MPEG were a bit bigger. An email response would be best, but I will return to the forum to see any replies. My email is mr_slayer65@hotmail.com Thanks for the help! This site rocks!

  2. 1 minute of Mpeg 1 (VCD) = 10 MB. So if your DivX file is 1h30 min (average length of a movie) then the resulting Mpeg (when encoding to VCD) will be 900 MB. Since most of the movies in DivX format are 700 MB big (to fit on 1 CDR) it might appear that DivX->Mpeg1 conversion will result in a bigger file. But it is not always true - just do the math for 58 minutes (700 MB) long movie in DivX format converted to Mpeg.... here's your 120 MB smaller file.
