  1. I got the burner but the enclosure is still a week away.
I sure hope the firewire enclosure works! I got a Generic one from compgeeks.com Model ME-320F. I figured that buying an enclosure and putting the 8mb internal inside would be better the buying the 2mb external. Guess I'll find out soon enough. Now I have to buy some media.

BTW what is DVD-R or DVD+R?

I have the ME-320U2F version but am currently using only the firewire port since I do not have a USB 2.0 adapter. My DRU-500A works fine in it. Have burned at 1X (-RW), 2X (-R), and 2.4X (+RW). Don't know if 4X will work - the drive might try to draw more current than the enclosure's power supply can handle. Not likely to be a problem for me anytime soon since 4X discs are expensive.

  3. I'm thinking of getting this firewire case (ME 320F) for my Sony DRU500a. I can't see any downside to this since I can keep my other burner and not open my computer yet again. Plus I can connect to my laptop. Am I missing anything? Has anyone experienced any problems with this setup? Any installation issues?

  4. You can follow my previous post but.... nope... no problems.. I am using it like that. Only one small issue. I cna't use ADVDInfo to identify manufacturer of my DVD-R anymore But that is like "no problems"

A Note: Firewire/USB external drives are not 100% exactly the same as on the IDE bus. For most apps, this won't matter. For those speciality apps where you are manually manipulating your drive to read data or do 'funny things', you can run into unexpected errors.

Regular ripping and burning shouldn't impose any problems. More post saying it's OK versus problems.
