Let me start by saying that i downloaded TAKEDOWN ( HACKERS 2 ) full screen SBC.divx a while ago. I used TMPEGnc to convert it into a PAL VCD and of course had to split it and burn to 2 cd's.

I then came across Sevy's Filters and using them was able to burn the complete movie to a 80 min cd as an SxVCD, (after i had converted the dats to mpegs using VCDGEAR and the join the 2 mpegs together) which plays in My MICO Multiregion DVD player that plays everything and looks excellent on my 28 inch Toshiba Widescreen TV.

Now comes the problem, I've just gotten a hold of Tombraider 2 cd's VCD, converted the dats to mpegs using VCDGEAR and the join the 2 mpegs together.

Now the movie itself last's for 93 mins and a couple of seconds, there are no ending credits on it and when i convert it using TMPEGnc and Sevy's filter for SxVCD PAL ENHANCED, with the CQ_VBR set 70 and the audio set at 128kbps like it says in the guide that comes with them the conversion comes out at well over 800 meg.

The joined Tombraider VCD is 922mb and i sure that when i joined TAKEDOWN together it was even bigger in size, but i was still able to fit that onto an 80 min cd (granted i cut out the end credits).

I even lower the CQ_VBR to 60 and the Audio to 112kbps and it still came out at 815mb, tried to burn it to cd using nero with the overburn option on, it just spat out the cd saying that there was not enough space on the cd, i then made CUE/BINFILE using VCDImager and put CDRWIN to TESTWRITE it went all the way to 99% and would not close the CD.

Now if i was able to make TAKEDOWN which last's for 93 mins and it's full screen fit on a 80 min.

But i'm not able to do it with tombraider which last for the same amount of time and it's not even full screen.

WHAT THE HELL is the problem here. I used the same filter on both Movies and yet one will not work.

I know that i can go as low as CQ_VBR set at 50 but i don't want to do that because i don't like the Quality that you end up with.

SO if anyone has any ideas on what the hell is the problem and can help, it would be most welcomed.

    Thanks in advance

  2. The problem is, that VBR compression is diffrent for each movie, it might work great on one movie, but will barely do anything on another movie, was able to put a 96min movie on a 80min CDR, and then I couldn't get a 86min movie on a 80min CDR using the exact same settings, it all depends on the amount of action you have in the movie, if you have the same scene for a long time, that's where the compression and the VBR kicks in, however, if there is alot of action and scenes keeps on changing every few min, then the compression is at minimum and the VBR is barely being used.

I'm sorry that the Templates did not work for you, but it's not always the fault of the Templates, sometimes we just gotta do what we gotta do!

Hey Sevy thanks for replying and for the help.

I guess i'll have to make do with what i have, or maybe get some of those 90 mins or even some of those 99mins cdr's and see if they'll work in my writer.

Anyways thanks again for all your help and your filters.

  5. I have before burned on 90 min CD-R, but now when I try Nero reports only 96 mb free. I have installed newest firmware for my 16x speed plextor and also installed latest Nero.

Can it be the ASPI layer or ???

  6. It could defenetly be the ASPI Layer, but also the detection of the 90min CDR, since not all are good!

  7. ok, ok, try using 2pass VBR and find out the exact bitrate the movie needs to be. (using the bitrate calculator)

  8. Lower the maximum bit rate. Using the SeVCD template, I reduced the maximum bit rate down to 1025, Quality to 65 and audio bit rate to 128k and the resulting mpg file for Tomb Raider fitted easily on a standard 650MB CD-R.

I'm now trying to increase the bitrate and quality to find the optimal for a 700Mb CD-R.
