  1. Ok, I am only aware of a couple ways to create a svcd. One is with nero --- but it really lacks in that it uses a generic scandata.dat file, stopping my mintek 1600 from even detecting the correct length of the file. The programs based on vcdimager (vcdeasy, vcdimagergui) do do this. In downloaded files, then the time search and time remaining both work. They also play without any of this black pixellation. All the files I create myself with tmpgenc however, do have this problem seemingly though. This just pop black stuff more or less. It only appears on the dvd player though --- not on pc. This could just be the YUV option, or the DC component precision, or one of the other options, or event the 'profile level'. I dunno, perhaps someone can clarify. As for the time searching issue, I'm at a loss as to what I can do about it. Files created with tmgenc don't do it, but other work this fine. I even found this option in vcdeasy, correct APS segements or something like that, that sounded like it might be the problem. It however has not helped. Surfice it to say I'm interested to know if anybody can help with either of these. thanks

  2. Ok well I answered my own question on one front. It would seem leaving some of the svcd template settings alone helped the black pixellation. Main profile and main level, 4:2:0 YUV format, and 8 bits DC component precision. I still have no clue why the time searching is not working though. The same burning method works on pre-created files --- I mean Tmpgenc is the only program I'm aware of the multiplexes SVCD-MPEG files. Every guide you look at reccomends it. So what is wrong?

  3. I certainly seem to be good at dead posts. I at least thought this time searching might be a semi-frequntly brought up question.

  4. Tmpgenc is good but its also pretty slow, not a problem now that intel have demo-ed a 4.7Ghz p4 but for the rest of us.. 22hrs to crunch up a 2 hour film..and thats on a p3 866.. Are you saying you cannot timesearch on any svcd? or only svcd YOU prepare ? are the ones that work not svcd but vcd?? which encoder shouldnt matter but if you use VBR not CBR then maybe it dont work.
