I am considering a AIW-7500/8500 to purchase as my new mobo requires a 1.5v AGP Video card.

My question is regarding the capture resolution that is capable with this card. I would prefer to use VDub, but the VfW/WDM-wrapper may limit to 352x288 (it does on my older AIW-pro). Does anybody have information regarding this?

Failing that, has anybody been able to capture at DVD-esque resolutions with a diff software like Premiere (or any other tool)?

In the final analysis, I want a decent video card that has the possibility of 720x480x24bit caps (regardless of codec).

I can always fiddle with the codecs to determine which ones my system can handle (1.4G T-bird, 1.5Gb RAM), would prefer Huffy, but that kind of throughput requirement may kill my drives.

I just need some verification of the capture capabilities of raw-AVI streams with either of these cards. Any help appreciated.

  2. I have 750 AIW and I use V-Dub to capture avi with Huffyuv codec. Mine is a XP 1.7 Ghz AMD. It allows me to capture at any size. Normally, I do 480X480 and then encode to SVCD.

    jm:

good to hear that SVCD rez can be had using Huffy/Vdub.

did you have to install a VfW/WDM wrapper to enable use with VDub? Also, if you did use a wrapper, could you tell me where you found it?

The wrapper I am currently using maxes out at 352x288, but that is with an old AIW-Pro 8meg card (and under Win2k as well). Never using any other AIW card, I am unsure if my version of the wrapper is at fault, my Win2k OS, or the fact that the card is ready to file for Social Security.

    Thanks in advance.

  4. I don't recall installing anything else. Maybe experts on these cards can comment on that.

  5. I'm using the Radeon AIW and just capturing directly to mpeg using MMC.
If capturing from a TV signal, I use moviefactory to edit out commercials and then also burn a DVD. Typically 1 hour (45 minutes after getting rid of commercials ) ends up taking about 2G.

Actually, if using moviefactory and reducing it to 1/2 DVD the file size ends up being about 850M which allows 4 hour of TV (3 hours of program ) on one dvd. By reducing the bit rate from 2520 (one i use for dvd) you can make the file size fit on a CD and still have good quality.

The quality comes out just fine for my eyes and ears and my TV.

PS: I also tried capturing avi then using tmpenc. For my use it is not worth the additional time.
