  1. I have several clips that are 4:3 letterboxed. If I edit the .IFO file and checkmark the box 16:9 and automatic letterbox will this make the clip anamorphic?

    I've done this before and it is relatively easy but be warned quality, (depending on your original file) can go down the toilet.

    You can do it one of two ways;

    1. if its mpeg1 / avi open it in virtualdub load the null transform filter and hit cropping, crop out the top and bottom black bars, this leaves video that is only the bit you are interested in, frameserve to tmpgenc and encode as a 16:9 video, if the ratio of your video is greater than 16:9 e.g. 2.35:1 tmpgenc will still add black bars so that a 16:9 widescreen set will show the correct ratio.

    OR

    2. if you are dealing with an mpeg2 file you need to DVD2AVI the file to create a .d2v project then load the .d2v into TMPGENC and go to configure, go to the page showing noise reduction options etc and select crop and then do the same as above.

    Remember to encode to MPEG2 at 352x480 1/2 D1 or 720x480 D1 (NTSC) or for PAL 352x576 1/2 D1 / 720x576 D1 with audio at 48khz

    Once done your new mpeg file should be anamorphic and then the anamorphic button will work.
