  1. when encoding an avi to mpeg using tmpgenc...is it better to do the sound and video at the same time? or is it better to do the sound seperate using virtualdub...and then load the saved sound file from virtualdub into tmpgenc and load the avi video into tmpgenc then encode video and sound?

    reason im asking is cuz i downloaded home sweet alabama then coded the video n sound all at once using tmpgenc...and when i played it back on my dvd player/tv the sound wasent all that great.

  2. This all depends on your source material and what your target is. In general the method described is safe and will cover most circumstances. However if, for instance you have a divx with AC3 sound and want to conserve this for use on a DVD, let TmpGenc encode video only and use the AC3 track extracted with vdub as the audio when you author your DVD. This is just one situation where the procedure you described may not be suitable, there are sure to be others but as I said, for most situations it is a safe reliable way of encoding to mpeg with TmpGenc so if it works for you, stick to it.

  3. ok im kinda new to this...just tryin to figure it out so i do it correct.

    so if my avi file sound is AC3 i should load the avi in vDUB and do the sound that way n save it as a movie.wav file? then load my avi movie in tmpgenc for video source and load the saved movie.wav file into audio source then start encode? now when i encode do i still do audio and video same time? after i load the wav?

  4. Again it depends on what you are trying to do. For encoding to (S)VCD, the best method is as you descrbed, produce a combined (multiplexed) .mpg file from seperate audio and video inputs. Only if you specifically NEED the TmpGenc output to be seperate is it worth encoding seperatley.

  5. ok i feel like an idiot lol
    and yes bugster, i wanna make a VCD.
    so i understand the BEST way/quality is to
    "load the avi in Vdub,save the sound as movie.WAV"
    open tmpgenc.
    load the avi movie in the video source
    load the movie.WAV that i made from Vdub in the audio source.
    system stream ON "SYSTEM(video+audio)
    click START

    that is exactly how i do it right?
    ok i just downloaded..knock around guys.
    the audio format says...lame mp3 encoder (ACM) 56 kbits,24,000 hz,stereo

    so i wanna make a VCD so i do what i stated above right?

  6. Yep, thats exactly what you do. And onve you have your movie.mpg file, burn it to CD with Nero as VCD.

    Good Luck

    Oh, and don't forget to load the appropriate template in TmpGenc (or use the wizard if you prefer). Make sure the Framerate TmpGenc selects matches that of the avi.

    PAL = 25fps
    NTSC = 29.97fps
    NTSC film = 23.97fps

  7. ok thank you soooo much bugster..i highly appreciate it.

    and 1 last thing...about the appropriate template
    on my avi just downloaded the video format says

    " 352x240,24bits,40414 frames,14.985 frames/sec"
    so seeing that the frame rate is 14,985...

    does that mean i wood use the NTSC = 29.97fps template?

    and yeah im in canada so im NTSC format. so i load the VIDEOCD(ntsc).mcf template right?

  8. Have encoded a lot avi's, and suceeded with transfering them to disc, to play on DVD,,, However tried twice to encode Divx onto to disc, and have no sound whatsoever....am using TMPGenc.... Do you need to encode separate audio when dealing with Divx?? am using Nero to burn..

  9. Hey, Rumour21, no offence intended mate, but its considered bad form to try and hijack other peoples threads with unrelated questions. Either search the forum and or guides for your answer or start a new thread., Thanks
