I made very good VCD's and burn them with Nero on Samsung CD-RW, the I decide to burn on a CD-R "GPT Black PRO" and the results are not so good.
Can somebody tell me what is the best media to use

  2. Try some Verbatim/TDK/Sony/PNY.

I use Verbatim's in my burner. Try to find out which type your burner likes and stick with it!

    "...Black Pro"...

Does that mean black-bottomed? I've heard nasty things about them, it's almost universally unreadable on so many players, so much so I'd say don't use them.

If it has a VERY good drive in it (like maybe a Pioneer or more $$$ one) then maybe it works, but I'd personally stick with "regular" CD-R media (silver, gold, blue, green bottom).

The ones I use are cheap and good.
I get them at the Costco Buisness Center in my town and man I have no complaints about them.

    K Hypermedia CD-R
    700MB
Gold colored and there only $13 for a spindle of 50

  6. I have used PINE. They are ok.

The best CDRs are Imation/PNY/Sony/TDK. Never had problems with these.

  7. I use the CompUSA Black CD-R's and have had no problem with them working in my computer, others computers, Home DVD Player (Philips 825), and others DVD Players (Pioneer 333, APEX-660, Sony Unknown model). Never have had a problem with quality. And they look very cool.

i know memorex cd-rw are true silver.

beware of green silver. verbatium's are a mix of green and gold and may not work in some 'silver only' players.

kodak makes gold cd-r, but good luck finding them.

    imation also makes gold cd-r.

i dunno who makes true silver cd-r

  10. There is absolutely no meaning to terms like "true-silver" and "true-gold". All CD-R media use either silver or gold or a combination as the reflective surface.

The reason many DVD players cannot read CD-R media is due to the organic dye layer, not the reflective layer. All dyes essentially work in the same way and there are so many variations simply because different companies had to create and patent a different chemical compound if they wanted to enter the CD-R market.

The "colour" of a CD-R is a combination of the dye and the reflective layer.

No combination of dye (important) + reflective layer (questionable importance) is more likely to work in those DVD players that aren't designed to play CD-R/W. In a post a while back, the AZO (dark blue) type media was supposed to be great. In other posts, this same type doesn't work. The same is true for black media, gold media, etc.

Commerical CDs are not CD-R media at all -- but are pressed discs. A CD-R disc can be made to look like a pressed disc to the eye, but it is really no more like one than any other CD-R.

Also, unless Verbatim has been making other types of media, they have always used their "metal-AZO" type dye which is distinguished by being dark blue.

Kodak media look gold because they use a gold reflective layer plus a light green dye.

Imation doesn't make it's own media, but OEM it to other producers. For a while, they used Kodak media.

    Regards.

I use the no-name generic (not really, but I don't really care) discs from MicroCenter that sell for $18 for a 100-disc spool. Recently, they ran out of them and started selling the 50-disc spools for $9.00. I have had no problems with them in several writers.
