  1. Im pretty new to this so excuse my n00bness, but I have a prob.

I've 2 700 meg avis, Ive already gathered I need to make them smaller before MPEG enocding. I find what I think will do the job (virtual dub) I load the source file, put the audio on mp3 compression, put the video on 2:1 high quality to half the frame rate and set to divx 5.0.x in compression. I also set the audio/video to full precessing mode.

I then make sure the frame rate is set to the default 23ish and away I go with Save as AVI. The projected target file nearly doubles as aposed to getting smaller What I notice is that the fps isnt limietd to 23-24 it peaks @ 80 and sits around 70-80 all the time. I recheck all the settings and do a preview (which shows the correct fps (23-24)) but in the Save mode the fps is still high and the target file gets bigger (almost double)

My question is.... how do I fix this ?

and if not is it possible to encode to MPEG as it is and then Compress that monster before actually burning ?

    Thanks in advance

  2. I doubt your fps is changing - maybe the fps it is processing but not the frame rate of the movie. You must have a nice fast machine.

Yes an MPEG1 and probably MPEG2 will be bigger than say a divx AVI. You'll need to split them onto several CDs it looks like unless you want to make a nonstandard VCD or SVCD with a lower bitrate.
Panasonic DMR-ES45VS, keep those discs a burnin'

I dont think U quite caught what I said... I know mpeg will be higher than the divx avi, what im saying is when I compress AVI audio and video into what I think should me a smaller avi.... it gets bigger. This is before I even try and convert it to MPEG in that case this film would span over 12 cd'z surely this cant be right ?
