    Hey,
I've been trying to rip some of my DVD's to DIVX so that I can play them on my hard drive, using "Pinoy2201's DivX Newbie Guide" (http://www.vcdhelp.com/forum/userguides/78732.php). The problem is, because my Laptop only has a 5GB Hard Drive I cannot rip the vobs AND convert them to a DIVX AVI at the same time without running out of space. Is there any alternative way of doing this or should I just forget about it?

    Thanks for your help!

  2. There are plenty of DVD rippers that rip directly into the divx format. go to google.com and search "DVD Rippers"

go to a link called BurnWorld or something like that. They got a big list of them there

  5. hi there,

I believe that DVDx can rip directly to DivX. It's free, easily available (http://www.doom9.org/) and VERY easy to use.

    good luck

Using DVDx when I click open DVD root and select the movie IFO from the list I get the message:
"DeCSS: Invalid block found; drive may be not unblocked Run a DVD player such as WinDVD or PowerDVD Open the DVD, and retry. The DVD player dosen't need to run during the encoding process"
I click OK and then I get:
    "MPEG2Dec: Error during decoder initialisation"

Any ideas? Thanks for helping out a newbie idiot like me!

(Possible those messages originated because I had already ripped the vobs from the DVD to my HD using DVDDecrypter as instructed with the tutorial I was using)

  7. you must run a dvd playing program.

this will "unlock" the drive enabling you to rip the movie.

Thanks everyone for your help, it seems to be working okay now (although 57 hours seems like a LONG time to take )
    Thanks!

  9. 57 Hours!?? OMG. Why don't you just buy a hard disk and do it with Gordian Knot like everyone else? LOL. I wouldn't even bother if it took this long.
