  1. by any chance.. does anybody know exactly what goes on behind the scenes when an SVCD is burnt from an MPEG in Nero?

    i am a mac user, and as we have no nero on our platform, we create svcd's by encoding an mpeg, creating an xml file, and from that creating .img files which is burned directly as a multitrack xa image in an application called toast. basically what VCDImager Easy does in the PC world, i believe. this method will create standards compliant SVCD's.

    now the reason i ask, is that none of the svcd's i've made with this method have worked in my DVD player (Sampo DVE-611). they do work in my boyfriends DVD player though, and basically every dvd/svcd player on the market, except mine (so it seems).

    the strange thing is svcd's authored in Nero WILL play in my dvd player. i've never made one in nero myself, so i don't know the process.. but whatever it is, is it truley a standards compliant svcd? if i could find out what nero does in its process, i could probably find a way to re-create it with the software i'm using...

    sorry this is so long, any input would be greatly appreciated!

    Actually there is a version of NERO for the mac. It's called Neromax...but it really sucks in comparison to all the other options we mac users have.

  3. hey tgpo- thanks for your reply...

    neromax is only available for os 9 though, right? i tried to use it several months ago, and my cd burner wasn't supported.. apparently it only supplies drivers for about 6 different kinds of burners.

    i agree that the svcd authoring software we have in os x, is great. there's just some sort of incompatibility problem happening between its process, and my dvd player. which is why i was wondering how nero went about its process.. cos whatever it does, it works with my player.

    my bad, but are you ending the session though. my dvd doesn't play cdr or dvdr unless the session is closed.

    how were the svcd's authored in nero encoded(in nero or a stand alone encoder)?
    do you encode with the same bitrate?

    this is a sample of an xml file-
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <!DOCTYPE videocd PUBLIC "-//GNU//DTD VideoCD//EN" "http://www.gnu.org/software/vcdimager/videocd.dtd">
    <videocd xmlns="http://www.gnu.org/software/vcdimager/1.0/" class="svcd" version="1.0">
    <option name="track pregap" value="152" />
    <info>
    <album-id></album-id>
    <volume-count>1</volume-count>
    <volume-number>1</volume-number>
    <restriction>0</restriction>
    </info>
    <pvd>
    <volume-id>VIDEOCD</volume-id>
    <system-id>CD-RTOS CD-BRIDGE</system-id>
    <application-id></application-id>
    <preparer-id/>
    <publisher-id>VCDImager</publisher-id>
    </pvd>
    <filesystem>
    <folder>
    <name>SEGMENT</name>
    </folder>
    </filesystem>
    <sequence-items>
    <sequence-item src="test_svcd.mpg" id="sequence-00"/>
    </sequence-items>
    </videocd>

    make sure you have the line in bold.
    also, you may need these to fill in as option names and set values to true-
    <option name="?" value="?" />

    "svcd vcd30 entrysvd"
    -Enables the use of the (deprecated) signature "ENTRYSVD" instead of "ENTRYVCD' for the file /SVCD/ENTRY.SVD
    This is required by some stand-alone DVD players for SVCDs to play properly

    Default value: false

    "svcd vcd30 mpegav"
    -Rename /MPEG2 folder on SVCDs to (non-compliant) /MPEGAV
    This is required by some stand-alone DVD players for SVCDs to play properly.

    Default: false

    i can give you a link to this if you want.
