  1. Hi I'm using Pinacle Studio 7 to capture and edit DV from my camcorder.
I save the movie as MPEG for SVCD but the output is not good, very jerky, especially when the camera pans, when played on my DVD player. So I conclude that the Pinacle MPEG2 for SVCD encoder is not too good.

I've tried saving output to AVI using Pinacle selecting the DV codec and then using TMGEnc to convert the AVI to MPEG2, however TMPGEnc refuses to read the AVI file. I've tried using the Huff codec, the Indeo codec but the results are the same.

If I take the unedited AVI file as captured by Pinacle, and use TMPGEnc to create the SVCD, the result is pretty good.

Can anyone tell me how to burn an SVCD for use on my DVD player, after using Pinacle for editing ?

  2. get NERO 5.5
    NEW COMPILATION
    SUPER VIDEO CD
    Drag your MPG file
    BURN

    DONE!

    simple as that

    * i hope this'll work, cuz some players(including mine) don't read SVCDs, but most of them are able to read VCDs, if yours doesn't either, in stead of selecting SVCD then, select VCD

    good luck

  3. asgawera, I was doing same thing. DV->S7->AVI DV codec->TMPGEnc->SVCD MPEG with no proble. Only result is not good at all. Do you have latest version of Studio 7 ? I believe it is Studio 7 version 7.13.6. My output from Studio 7 looked better than from TMPGEnc. Please update this with results.

    Thanks.

I’m not an expert at this. I can tell you some of the things that I have learned and save me time. I make XSVCD’s only, as I’m converting home videos to CD. I have managed over time to get it down to 4 easy steps.

Step 1: Capture the video as uncompressed AVI (this gives you the best quality to work with) as close to the final output resolution as you can. This will save encoding time if it does not have to resize it. In my case 480x480 or 640x480

Step 2: Edit the captured video. I use Media Studio Pro 6.5DC for this.

Step 3: Save the edited video in Media Studio as an MPEG2 480x480 with a VBR of 4000. Field order B first. (make sure your player can play this).

Step 4: Burn the MPEG file(s) to CD with DVD Movie Factory. Make your menus etc…

    That’s it!!

You can download a trial copy of Media Studio Pro from
    http://www.ulead.com/msp/runme.htm

They also offer upgrade offers from other editing software – so you can get it as cheep as $129.00 for the DC version.

Works every time and I get video as good as the original… I would say its DVD quality. The down side is I can only get 20-30min per CD with a bit rate that high… but with this quality, I’ll take it!
