Hi,
After spending some time on this websites and a few others, looks like philips DVD 724 is a good choice for me. It plays all different kinds of formats and has all those audio and video components.
My first question is, is philips DVD 724 is the same as Philips DVD724AT. Looks like DVD724AT is the one on the philips website and I want to make sure they are not two different products (because some sites say DVD724AT does not support DVD-R).
My second question is just a suggestion from folks about what they think of my purchase? Are there some cons I should be aware of for this model?
And my last question is, where can I get the best deal for this model.
Thanks.

People say that all Philips models have problems with FF or rewinding SVCD disks: audio gets out of sync. People also say that there is a firmware upgrade for some models, but I couldn't find it on Philips site...
If you do buy it, please post here your experience.

I just purchased the DVD724 without the AT at the end, it plays every thing, I like it a lot. I think there is a difference between the one with AT mine for example does not have the 5 disk resume feature or the black level feature, and it is not mentioned that it plays HDCD oe DVD+RW, or have the scan feature all mentioned on the web site for this player but they don't exist on my player!. I asked a tech support, he said it is the same and then when I pointed out the difference and if a firmware apgrade would add those features they never answered back.
I'm confused and still trying to find the real truth behind this.
If any one knows of a firmware upgrade please poste. -
i have the 764SA model, but i think it's the same base.
So, i want to say this DVD player is perfect with my video-projector, and sound perfect on my hybrid-lamp ampli Luxman LV104u.
But i'm looking the region free code? -
This is what i found somewhere for the 724
Not sure if it going to work for you.
To change to region zero simply:
Open Tray
Press 1 1 1 1 (pausing between each)
Press 0 (new region 0 message appears)
Close Tray
BTW, so far the player has been fine.
Couple of problems
It skipped a couple of times, not sure if it was DVD or the player
On one DVD, the sound was very low.
So far I have tried VCD, MP3 and DVD only.
I would really like to know if this will work with dvd-r and dvd-rw or not. I do not have any to test it out. -
Yes this region hack works fine, also you can display the firmware info by opening the tray and pressing display I get
DVD724_071_V406_0624
REGION 1 LD:812F 3000
what do you get ?
also does your player resume the last 5 disk played? I can't.
I have the DVD724 without the "AT" at the end.
Interrested to know the firmware version of someone with the "AT" player.
I don't seem to find any firmware upgrades for this player on the net. -
update:
I have not tried a lot of different media yet. Just trying to play DVD's. So far it has been mostly good. But once in a while it will freeze. I mean the movie will be going and then suddenly pause and nothing will happen for a minute or so.
Sometimes it will come back again and continue but sometimes I have to poweroff and power on.
Is this normal? Is the DVD media problem or DVD player problem?
Should i return this unit?
Thanks -
dvd724 is the best

You can find firmware upgrades at http://www.euroservice.pfr.philips.com/assistance/dvd/sommaire.htm
Good luck -
Thank you for the firmware link, but non of them is for the DVD724.
The search goes on ... -
I am still satisfied with the player.
I would like to have a player with 5 disc changer. I am tired of getting up in the middle of the movie and changing the SVCD.
What is a good 5 disc changer DVD player that plays everything just like the philips 724 and has all the outputs for video and audio.
I do not really care about progressive scan, but all the rest of the things mentioned above are required.
Thanks.
