  1. i have been doing vcd's for a while now...but i am sort of a newb to svcds so bear with me please...

    i am using the KSVCD template: MPEG-2 640x352 23.976fps CQ_VBR 25

and when i am converting my divx avi file the output is going to be in M2V format...i have never gotten this format before so i dont know what to do

would i burn it just like any other svcd? except take off the compliancy checkmark? i am using nero burning rom, but have always had .mpg files no .m2v files, this is the first one

    any help appreciated, thanks.

An .m2v file is video only, contains no audio. Try opening your input file separately in Tmpeg. If the input file uses .ac3 audio that's the problem.
I don't think you 640x352 is going to play on a standalone DVD. You need to use an SVCD compliant resolution.

  3. well i have a divx avi file, i can rip the analog wav audio source from it the audio is not a problem, i was just wondering if m2v can be used on an svcd and if i would just burn it normally

the template says that it works with some dvd players, but mine is not listed as tested with the template yet, so i am going to try it out

the goal that set me out looking for something like this is because i want to fit dvdripped divx files onto svcds...for the better quality compared to VCD...but i only want to use 2 discs, not 3 or 4

so basically a normal-length SVCD movie on 2 discs, thats what i wanna do

if wav is not compatible with m2v, please tell me, and if u can also let me know if there is any way to fit a regular length dvdripped movie onto 2 discs for SVCD resolution...thanks in advance

You're missing something. Wulf109 was correct. You're .m2v is a video stream. You say you have no problem ripping audio? Then you need to create an .m2p stream from your .wav file (get it)?

.M2V(video stream)+.M2P(audio stream)=.MPG(your final SVCD). That's called multiplexing, and you can do it with Tmpgenc, or BBmpeg.

Oh yeah, I forgot. I'm not sure about your template (you should be at 480x480 for SVCD), but if you load your .AVI as your source for video and audio, then Tmpgenc knows to make your final output as .MPG. You probably have the "video only" box marked on the bottom right. Make sure that you have "vido and audio" is checked, as that tells the encoder to merge both video and audio stream into .mpg

    Good luck!!!!!

  6. Hmm sorry I wasn't thinking when I said that about WAVs heh. Does not make sense to just make an m2v file and not have any audio to it.

So there is no way to keep the nice quality and put the movie on just 2 discs?

Check out the bitrate calculators on the left hand side. That's the great thing 'bout SVCD. You can choose two, three, or four CD's, depending on what quality you want.
    With VCD's 80min of play=80min CD's.
    On an SVCD, 50,60 or 70min of play=80min CD's.

It's all about the bitrates baby!!!!!!
