Just copy it from the disk to your hd and if its called .dat then rename it mpg.
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.

The renaming technique will allow media player to recognize it and play it but it does not produce the original .mpg. To get the .mpg in its original form extract it with Vcdgear, available in the "Tools" section.

Digifreak is right about the header but today its probably more of a technicality. That is why I recommended the short method.

Programs like virtualdub and tmpgenc, mpeg players and all the other tools I use don't have any problems with the "dat" format and treat it like a regular mpeg file.

If the original mpeg file is re-encoded to standard or somehow changed by the burning software before it is written to disk then in reality neither retrieval method can restore the file to its exact specifications. You would need the pre-burn mpeg for that.
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.

  6. I wouldn't take the RIFF header for granted.

It is highly recommended that you convert it back to a standard MPEG with VCDGear or CDXA2MPEG or VCDXRIP.

  7. Ok so, What happens if I load the .dat onto my computer then rename it to .mpg and then try to burn that .mpg with Nero to a vcd, will it not turn out the same as the VCD I loaded onto my computer?

Or, is the only way, to rip it with VCDgear then burn it back to VCD?
Actually, all my VCD's are XVCD's to get technical.

    Thanks

shouldn't make a difference, if nero burned it before as standard compliant, nero will do it again even w/ the headers, since they are added by nero (however, there still might be a chance that nero will treat it as non-compliant, which means u will have to use vcdgear to make it compliant again.)

in this case it really doesn't matter, because you have to burn your xvcd's non-compliant anywayz, it doesn't matter if the extra headers make it non-compliant because that's wut it is to begin with

  9. Sorry but what are headers?

So, to sum up again all my VCD's are non-complient. They are all XVCD's. So, once the dat file is loaded change its name to mpg then burn non-complient with Nero and it will be exactly the same?

I never make a standard complient vcd its just too choppy for me.

    Later!
