  1. Hi everyone!
I'm following the guide "Foolproof AVI, DivX to SVCD using CCE", and I have a question regarding the resize on page 2/3. Using the resize filter, I'm confused as to what I need to place in the "Expand frame and leterbox image" section, along with my "New Width" and "New Height" boxes.

The AVI I'm converting is 640x272 (xvid) to a SVCD or 480x480 mpeg. Is it possible? The reason I'm asking because when I select the preview window, the image is squashed together using 480x480. All I want to do is make a standard SVCD at 480x480, but if the original is 640x272, then it seems like it's not possible to make a standard size without the image being distorted.

    What would you guys suggest?

You are lucky since the width is 640.

resize to 480x272 and letterbox to 480x480.

  3. Hehe, thanks for your input snowmoon, but CCE 2.50 crashes when I open the frame serving file (*.vdr). I've tried it several times with different settings and it crashes. Works fine in TMPGEnc though. The AVI file has no audio, as it's been stripped out and saved as a different name.

What's really strange is it worked yesterday with no problems, but the finished mpeg was not at the correct height and width. So I wanted to try it again with different settings. I'm using Win2kpro (sp2) with 328 megs of ram running dual PIII-550MHz cpu's.

try going to audio/full processing mode and the audio/conversion and set it to 44,1 16 bit audio. CCE 2.5 was pickey that it HAD to contain audio or it would barf.

  5. Thanks snowmoon. That fixed it by including the audio. Weird because if I use TMPGEnc with the audio, it refuses to encode. Thanks for your help.

CCE 2.50 crashes when I open the frame serving file (*.vdr).
Then you could load the avi into TMPG with SVCD template, Source aspect ratio=1:1(VGA), Video arrange method=Full screen(keep aspect ratio), and then save a project file. Convert the project file with VFAPV Converter, and load the resultant avi into CCE. Use CCE as normal, but with SAR=1:1.

    Banjazzer.

Does this make things run faster than just frameserving via Vdub, or is it just another way of skinning the same cat??

I don't know whether it's faster or slower. I can't use Virtualdub with CCE 2.64, so I go via TMPG. The advantage(?) is that you don't need to bother with resizing. Source aspect ratio=1:1(VGA) and Video arrange method=Full screen(keep aspect ratio), with the SVCD template loaded takes care of the resizing.

If you are using 2.5, you could maybe compare both methods.

Okay, the answer is YES. Using a .tpr file that gets wrapped with Vfapi, resulted in a .380 encoding in CCE compared to a .vdr file(resize 480x480) at .22 encoding. That's pretty significant.

Since not everyone's system is the same, I'll leave these ratios in place and let you decide if it's worth your time.
