  1. I have a true 16:9 movie, that is that the movie plays full screen in wide screen mode on the TV, and when the movie is played with WinDVD4 it displays it in 16:9. No Letter boxing on PC nor TV.
Now when i load the VOBs in DVD2AVI the display is very tall, i save the project and load the two files in to TMPGenc now what ever options i set in TMPGenc i still get the letter box effect. Is there a way to get the movie back to its original aspect ratio.

First you may need to load the unlock template if any of these options are unavalible to you.

    Under settings...

Your output ratio should be 16:9 not 4:3, under advanced set the input ratio as 16:9. If necessart set image placements as fill screen. These setiing in combo will make a MPEG that is 16:9 enhanced, but remember that many poeple will NOT be able to play these back since many DVD players WILL NOT letterbox VCD or SVCD.

    Cheers

  3. Ok, i've loaded the Unlock.mcf settings (what does that do?) and changed the input and outputs to 16:9 what do the newly activated options give me in the way of preserving the 16:9 enhanced aspect ratio. Oh and the end product will go on a Dvdr...

    Thanks for the help!

  4. word of caution, if the dvd has both a widescreen and fullscreen version, make sure you rip the widescren version...

once you have the widescreen version, dvd2avi's info box should tell u that the apsect ratio is 16:9 (if it's 4:3, then it's most likely fullscreen and u ripped the wrong version....however, there are some nonanamorphic widescreens that are 4:3)

in tmpgenc's options, set video output to 4:3 display NTSC. for source, set source apsect ratio as 16:9 525 line NTSC (assuming dvd2avi said it was 16:9). image positioning mehtod should either be fit to frame (preserve aspect ratio) or full screen (preserve aspect ratio) depending on which version of tmpgenc u have

o..i assumed you have NTSC dvd, if you have PAL..then everything should be in PAL
