At first I thought it was cos pulldown was doing a poor job of converting the 23.97fps to 29.97 for NTSC, but I just encoded from the source using 29.97, frameserved from TMPGenc. But still noticably the same problem.
Is it due to the encoding process (CCE or writing to hdd) or is there something else I should be doing? Do I have to encode at the same framerate as the original?
.avi - CVD, but it does that with SVCD too
another thing I noticed - I've got big spikes in the file if I view the VBR settings - Q settings. I guess they're where the stutters are. Why is this?

Think I got it sussed.
Need to set the framerate to the same as the original .avi in tmpgenc when I create the project to frameserve with.
