Well, I have a LITTLE experience with a couple of the Ulead programs, but not really much.
    The problem:
I am trying to edit out a scene from a video that I have copied to my hard drive. I am using DVD MoveiFactory SE (Good, bad or indifferent, I don't know). While playing it back, it appears to "jump" steadily at the rate of about twice per second. I suspect that this must be something fairly common, but I don't know what to search for to try to find a solution to this problem. I have searched the forums, but have not found it yet. I don't really think it is specific to Ulead, or at least to the specific version I am using as I have tried three different versions of Ulead and also noticed this same behavior when I used Stoik video converter to convert avi to wmv.
I don't know if it has to do with my o/s, or a driver issue. I can play any utube video fine. I can also play dvd's in the dvd player just fine. But not when I try to work with the video.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

  2. What was your source video? Are you saying playback is jerky in MovieFactory or in your DVD player after making a DVD?

    Hi,

Thanks for the reply. The source is a vob file on the hard drive. The problem is in Moviefactory or possibly something in a driver I think. It could not be the player since this is all on the hard drive.
    Thanks

  4. Does the video play fast for a bit then pause, then play fast again and pause, about twice a second? That is a miscommunication between the MPEG splitter and the MPEG decoder when playing 23.976 fps MPEG with 3:2 pulldown flags. That shouldn't matter once you burn a DVD. You could also try converting the VOB file to an MPG file. VOB2MPG, or a simple remux with TMPGEnc Free.

  5. DVD MF is an authoring and burning program with limited editing capability. It will accept vob renamed to mpg and author just fine.

Video Studio is Ulead's editng product.

You also don't mention what version of MF you are trying, earlier versions don't work on vista. "SE" versions are usually versions bundled with hardware and may have some features missing from the full version.

If you want to cut out some scenes and reauthor a dvd, the easiest solution is to use an mpeg editor like videoredo and DVD MF to reauthor a dvd if needed.

Jagabo - This sounds like what is happening, however, when I played the final clips, whether vob or mpeg2 the jumping continues in the finished video.
I have downloaded VOB2MEG and will give that a try. Thanks for that information - I had not heard of those programs.

qpskfec - (are you an amateur radio operator? Just curious by your username.) I said I had used Moviefactory SE, I was wrong there. I used Video Studio SE which came bundled with an Ezcap capture device. Also tried MF 6.0, MF 2.5 and Video Studio 7.0 which are all that I have.
I have the same results regardless of what program I am using. I still have the same problem if I am trying to convert an avi or mpg in Stoik Video converter to wmv.

redwudz - my apology. In the future I certainly will use a more descriptive subject title. Thank you for changing it this time.

I think you have a mismatched Directshow MPEG file reader, MPEG file splitter, and MPEG decoder combo. I've seen this happen with some installations. Try using GraphStudio to determine which filters are being used. They try using alternates.
