  1. I just found this site, and while there's TONS of guides and how-to's, they're not all very clear to me.

What I'd like to do is take video from several sources...stuff that's already on DVD's, computer-base AVI, MPG, and MOV files, and kind of edit them together and record them back to DVD for playing on my TV. Is this possible, and if so, can you give me an EASY to understand, step-by-step explaination?

You really should take some time to read these guides.
There not that difficult and if yyou use a combination of
Virtualdub,TMPGE and VCDEASY free software, you can't go wrong.

Should you also tell him how to edit them together, since it is one of the main reasons for his post?

  7. Well, I guess I'm just to unfamiliar with all this to understand...I did already read 3 of the 4 guides you recommended, but man, they don't seem too clear or easy to me. Especially the part about editing the various pieces together and then making a DVD (not VCD) out of them. I guess maybe the best way is to just start going at it and see where I run into problems. Thanks for the responses.

Okay. plain and simple. You are going to "rip" your video from your DVD. Convert it to MPEG-2, DVD format. Convert all the AVI, MOV, etc to MPEG-2 DVD format as well. You will use TMPGEnc to join all the files together (I would use AviSynth myself, but I digress).

Then you will Author or burn the big file containing your ripped, converted DVD file, your converted AVI/MOV/etc. files onto DVD-R(W)/DVD+R(W) with a DVD burner. If all this goes well, it should play on a standalone DVD player.

Wee Haggis went over all this, guide by guide (I think you should thank him personally for doing YOUR research), how you missed the gist of what he was saying, is beyond me. But hang in there, once you get into it, you will realize how easy he made it for you. Take care!
